Flights to Lukla from Manthali and not Kathmandu

Lukla Flights from Ramechhap in 2025: What Trekkers Need to Know Lukla Flights?

As of April 2025, most fixed-wing flights to Lukla—the gateway to Everest Base Camp—are operating from Ramechhap’s Manthali Airport instead of Kathmandu. This change started from October 2022 to reduce congestion at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport during peak trekking seasons .

Why the Change from Kathmandu to Rammechhap for flights?

Kathmandu’s airport is busy with international flights, causing delays for Lukla flights. Manthali Airport, located 132 km northeast of Kathmandu (5-6 hour drive), is a more streamlined operation for Lukla flights only. The flight from Ramechhap to Lukla takes 20 minutes, compared to 35-45 minutes from Kathmandu .

Flight Cost in 2025 for Both Kathmandu and Ramechhap to Lukla

Kathmandu to Lukla Flight Cost: USD 220-240 one-way for foreigner .
Ramechhap to Lukla Flight Cost: USD 177-186 one-way for foreigner .
For Nepali Citizen: NPR 7,050-7,150 one-way; NPR 14,200 round-trip .

Kathmandu flights are available but limited and often delayed. Ramechhap is a more reliable and cost effective option for trekkers going to Everest region.
